Redruth’s New Gem: Exploring The Buttermarket
Discovering the Buttermarket – Redruth
Redruth is buzzing with new energy, and at the centre of it all is The Buttermarket—a revitalised space and vibrant collective of kitchens, quickly becoming the heart of creativity and community in our town. We’re proud to see the resurgence of Redruth as a vibrant hub showcasing the very best of Cornwall. The Buttermarket is quickly earning a reputation as one of Cornwall’s hidden foodie gems, bringing together some of the county’s finest up-and-coming independent restaurants and food stalls under one roof. The result is a deliciously unique atmosphere that blends great taste with a renewed sense of community spirit.
Whether you’re popping in for a relaxed lunch, sipping coffee in the sunshine, or meeting friends for street food and live music, The Buttermarket offers something for every appetite and occasion. It’s a place where flavours from all over the world meet Cornish creativity.
Beyond the food, there’s a real sense of something special happening here. The space hosts regular events, pop-ups, and creative workshops, all set within a stunning historic courtyard that’s been lovingly brought back to life. It’s fast becoming a go-to destination not just for locals, but for visitors looking to discover an authentic taste of Cornwall’s modern food scene.
Thanks to the vision and hard work of Redruth Revival CIC, this transformation wouldn’t have been possible without a dedicated group of local business owners volunteering their time and passion to breathe new life into our much-loved Cornish town. The Buttermarket isn’t just a destination—it’s a symbol of what makes Redruth special: a creative spirit, a strong sense of local pride, and a warm welcome to anyone who steps through its gates.
The Buttermarket – Cornwall’s New Foodie Fix
The latest addition to Cornwall’s foodie scene
The Buttermarket is one of those places you stumble across and instantly love. Originally built in 1825 as a bustling meat market, this Grade II listed gem has been lovingly restored, thanks to a £4 million renovation led by Redruth Revival CIC. The transformation has breathed new life into the historic space, blending its rich heritage creating a vibrant modern feel. Now, it’s a growing hot spot for Cornwall’s foodies.
The kitchens include neighbourhood Italian favourite Little Ears, serving up fresh, handmade pasta and pizza; mouth-watering Asian-fusion street food from Bango Kitchen; juicy, grass-fed beef burgers and beef-dripping chips courtesy of Cowgirls; and the latest addition, Filthy Focaccia – think fluffy sourdough packed with bold, seriously good flavour combos.
The Buttermarket also hosts two rotating pop-up kitchens, offering even more variety and giving emerging independent food businesses the chance to shine. It means there’s always something new to try—and another reason to keep coming back.
