Sustainability
Eco Energy – Changes we’ve made
Electric Charging
Sustainable travel has never been more important and that’s why we’ve recently installed 4 EV charging stations in our car park. Travelling for business or leisure doesn’t have to have a negative impact on the environment and we encourage guests to take advantage of electric travel when they can. Easily charge your car while staying and dining with us. We offer 2 7kw chargers and 2 22Kw chargers through Project EV.
Electric vehicles offer significant environmental benefits by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier planet. We want to support the transition to sustainable transportation where we can.
Solar Panels
At the beginning of 2024, we installed 186 solar cells to help lower our carbon footprint and reduce the use of greenhouse gases. We’ve done this to combat climate change by generating electricity without CO2 or other harmful pollutants. This results in cleaner air and improved public health for our guests and Cornwall. These solar panels are now providing up to 23.49% of our power across our site!
Additionally, solar power systems require minimal water for operation, conserving vital water resources. By decreasing reliance on finite fossil fuels, we minimise habitat destruction, prevent acid rain, and mitigate ocean acidification. The small footprint of solar installations causes less disruption to ecosystems compared to traditional energy methods. By harnessing clean energy we can take a step forward in protecting Cornwall’s natural resources.
Low Impact Landscaping
Leisure Club Garden…
We’ve recently renovated our Leisure Club garden to become a hub for local wildlife. From the original plans to the execution of the renovation, the idea was to conserve Cornwall’s biodiversity as best we can. Adding a living structure like willow lattice to our pathways encourages wildlife, captures carbon and builds soil. For maximum ecological benefit, we’ve added a native meadow area where local butterflies, bees and other insects can thrive. The steps leading down into the Leisure Club were completely built using local and reclaimed stone, which not only looks wonderful but has had little impact on the planet. This is currently an ongoing process!
Sustainable Bath and body products
Bramley…
The beautiful bath and body products in our bathrooms are from the wonderful Bramley, a southwest-based brand specialising in sustainable luxury skincare. Crafted in the British countryside, Bramley uses only the finest sustainable and natural ingredients like coconut, sugar, and soya plant wax. Their products are cruelty-free and free of harsh chemicals, making them gentle on the skin and safe for marine life. Additionally, all their packaging is 100% recyclable, and their ingredients are biodegradable, ensuring environmental safety.
Monuskin…
Monuskin products, used in our Spa are cruelty-free, never tested on animals, and made with natural ingredients. They use pure, locally sourced plants, herbs, minerals, and essential oils. Ensuring gentle and effective care, their products are free from harmful chemicals, artificial perfumes, and synthetic colours. Additionally, Monuskin emphasises sustainability by manufacturing and packaging their products in small batches in Cheltenham, which helps reduce waste and overproduction
We support local
Food and Drink…
Our kitchen uses local seasonal produce, supporting Cornish farmers and businesses to ensure the highest quality food is served in our restaurant. Our fantastic chefs then take this local produce to create the spectacular dishes you get to sample in our Dining Galleries Restaurant. For example, we source our fish directly from local suppliers Cornish Fish Direct who are committed to sustainable fishing practices that protect our oceans.
We get our incredible hot chocolate from Cocoa Canopy who craft their delicious chocolate beads sustainably. They partner with Cocoa Horizons to support self-sustaining farming communities that protect nature and nurture growth. We also source many of the spirits found at our Copper Bar from local distilleries such as Tarquins Cornish Gin – which champion sustainability from the production process to their energy and waste management.

Sponsoring Local Conservation Charities
Kernow Conservation…
Kernow Conservation are local conservationists doing what they can to improve Cornwall’s biodiversity and restore wildlife. Through carefully managed reintroductions, they have been able to successfully reintroduce the Water Vole, and are currently working hard on other species reintroductions.
Cornwall Heritage trust…
We’ve also been supporting Cornwall Heritage Trust for a few years now, their mission to preserve Cornwall’s unique and distinct heritage is important to us. They protect and preserve 16 of Cornwall’s iconic ancient sites and work with local schools to educate the next generation on Cornwall’s history and the importance of conserving these areas.
A statement from Darren Kaslow, the General Manager of the Penventon, on why we need to support Cornish Heritage…
“We are delighted to announce our continued sponsorship of Cornwall Heritage Trust for another year. Our commitment to supporting this essential organisation is rooted in a shared passion for preserving and celebrating Cornwall’s rich history.
As we’re a hotel with a storied past dating back to the early 19th century, we recognise the profound significance of maintaining historical legacies. Our hotel stands as a living testament to the countless memories created by the countless people who have walked through our doors. We know the importance of maintaining that history, not just to respect the past, but to allow future generations to revel in its history.
Our dedication to preserving our own history is reflected in the preservation of original architecture and the thoughtful design of interiors that pay homage to the Regency period – the era our hotel (then a Manor House) was built.
Cornwall Heritage Trust shares our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the invaluable history of the region. Their tireless efforts resonate with our belief that the preservation of history is not only an act of respect for the past but also essential to future generations. Understanding the immense value history holds for Cornwall, its residents, and visitors alike, we support Cornwall Heritage Trust in their mission to protect and promote the unique history of this remarkable region we call home.”
