Depending on the season, you may be lucky enough to spot majestic dolphins, sharks or adorable seals, while on land you may encounter otters and an array of captivating birdlife. With so much to discover and explore in Cornwall be sure to book your summer stay at The Penventon Park Hotel.

We’ve carefully curated a list of some of the best summer experiences and activities we highly recommend during your stay with us this summer.

Things to do around Cornwall:
Chapel Porth Beach:

One of the most exquisite beaches in Cornwall is Chapel Porth Beach, located on the north coast and just a 20-minute drive from us. This stunning coastal escape is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the natural beauty of Cornwall. The high cliffs and golden sand is breathtaking and is a must-visit when staying with us. The beach boasts excellent footpaths perfect for dog walks and exploring the best of what Cornwall has to offer. A massive highlight of Chapel Porth is the iconic Wheal Charlotte engine house, which sits perched on the cliff overlooking the cove. This historic building dates back to 1806 and was a successful Cornish copper and tin mine. Today, it’s a popular spot for photographers and visitors alike, offering breathtaking views of the beach and surrounding landscape.

Hells Mouth:

We know many of our guests and visitors to Cornwall love rambling along the many coastal paths and finding new places to explore. Another must-visit location during your summer stay is Hells Mouth. Just a short 17-minute drive from The Penventon, this alluring spot is nestled amidst the rugged and breathtaking landscape of the north coast. The footpaths that wind around Hells Mouth are lovingly cared for and maintained by the National Trust, preserving Cornwall’s natural heritage for generations to come. As you explore the area, be sure to stop by the delightful cafe located near the cove. Here, you can sit back, relax and soak up the awe-inspiring views of the surrounding landscape while sipping on a cup of tea or coffee. The cafe is the perfect spot to pause and recharge before continuing your adventure. Hells Mouth is known for its dramatic cliffs and stunning scenery, which offer an unforgettable backdrop for your explorations. But it’s not just the views that make this spot so special. The cove is also known for its dangerous tides and incredibly strong currents, which add an element of excitement and adventure to any visit. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or a casual explorer, Hells Mouth is a destination that’s sure to leave a lasting impression on you.

Porthtowan:

Porthtowan is one of Cornwall’s great beaches and is situated a 15-minute drive from us. As a consistent winner of the Blue Flag award, Porthowan is a great beach for swimming, surfing and sunbathing in the summer. The beach is lifeguarded during the peak holiday season and has a beach restaurant as well as a village shop a couple of minutes from the beach, perfect for grabbing those last-minute summer essentials. If you’re not one for getting in the sea, there are also lovely coast paths with brilliant views you and your family can enjoy.

St Agnes:

Nestled in a breathtaking location on the north coast of Cornwall, lies the charming village of St. Agnes. Just 20 minutes from us this idyllic spot is situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a World Heritage Site.  Whether you’re exploring the picturesque village itself or wandering through the surrounding natural landscape, it’s a destination that’s sure to take your breath away. The village itself has a thriving creative community, lovely cafes (with the most delicious cakes), and a few charming independent shops, as well as is home to the wonderful Cornish lifestyle brand Finnistere! It’s the perfect place to spend a Cornish summer day eating, shopping, swimming and exploring.

Godrevey – Seal Spotting:

Seal Spotting is a fun and popular activity in Cornwall and we are lucky to be situated a short drive from some of the beaches where the local seals frequent. The two most common breeds of seals to spot in Cornwall are the grey seal and the harbour seal. The most popular spot to see some sunbathing seals is Godrevey which is a 25-minute drive from us. The seals are often spotted sunbathing in Mutton Cove which can be walked to from Godrevey Beach. Some other popular spots to catch them are slightly farther away but well worth the drive such as Seal Island St Ives, Mullion, Lands End and Pendennis Point. There is also the brilliant Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek which is an exciting and guaranteed way of seeing the seals. The sanctuary is a 30-minute drive from us but is more than worth it to see the seals and support a local wildlife organisation.

We know that some days you would much rather relax after busy and fun days out exploring all that Cornwall has to offer and you would much rather stay at the Hotel and indulge in all the experiences the Penventon has to offer. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of our themed evenings, where live music and captivating performances set the stage for unforgettable memories.
