Don’t you just love melting away your stress with a spa treatment? Our spa therapists, Ellie and Daniella, know the secret to creating those blissful moments. Whether you’re dreaming of a soothing massage or a revitalising facial, they’re the experts behind the scenes.
Read on as we chat with Ellie and Daniella about their journey to becoming spa therapists, what they love most about their work, and what a typical day looks like in our little spa haven.
How long have you both worked at Penventon?
Ellie: About 9 years now
Daniella: 2.5 years
How long have you been Spa Therapists? How did you get started?
Ellie: I’ve been doing it for 14 years now. I went to college and did hair and beauty, I decided I liked beauty best so I went in that direction. I did work experience in a spa and loved it so just went from there.
Daniella: I’ve been a therapist for 11 years now, I always knew what I wanted to do and then just went straight to college, once I was qualified I was desperate to get into a spa and experience what working in a spa is like (as it’s a lot different to when you’re training). I’ve only ever worked in spas that are within hotels, I love it.
Walk us through a typical working day at the spa.
No days are ever the same. We start by checking the schedule and preparing the treatment rooms for the day’s appointments. Lighting candles, playing soothing music, and creating a relaxing atmosphere are essential for our guests. Our mornings typically include a mix of massages, facials, and manicures/pedicures. We also have a diverse clientele, welcoming locals, hotel guests, and those on spa day packages. This variety keeps our days exciting and engaging.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
The guests. They’re so grateful and kind, and it’s really rewarding seeing how much they’ve enjoyed their treatments. We’re very lucky to have truly wonderful regulars and hotel guests. It’s nice to be able to make people feel good and contribute to their well-being. We can visibly see the transformation in our clients from when they arrive to when they leave, knowing that we’ve made a positive impact on their day.
Spa treatments are beneficial for both the mind and body, so this is what we strive to achieve. A massage is a fantastic way to unwind and de-stress. Sometimes, you don’t realise how much you need it until you experience the tranquillity of a quiet treatment. We’re also grateful for the opportunity to be a listening ear for clients who need someone to talk to.
What is something you’re currently working on that you’re excited about?
Our new product range Monuskin. We’ve just launched it a few months ago and it’s really exciting we’ve been able to start using the products in treatments and exploring them a bit more.
Daniella’s favourite product: I love the Cleansing Balm in our facial range. It’s such a beautiful product, really gentle on the skin, and it’s good for all skin types. It’s also a really nice deep cleanser – the rose and geranium smell is amazing.
Ellie’s favourite product: I love the Rose and Lemon Body Cream, it’s so nice. It’s really rich and silky smooth, and the citrus with the rose is a lovely balance. I do love the whole range though, monuskin’s products have been so nice to get to know and start working with.
What made you choose Monuskin?
So much! We’re so pleased with their products so far. We chose them because they’re British, ethically sourced, have lots of good products, get really good results, as well as offer a wide range of products. They’re reasonably priced as well so are great value for money, making them an accessible brand for those looking to try high-quality skincare. They’re also good for different skin types, so we can recommend them to a lot of our clients. They’ve got a wide range but it’s not overly confusing like some skincare brands can be. And we love how the scents smell amazing but aren’t too overpowering. They’re a really balanced brand and great quality.
If you were staying as a guest what treatment would you get?
Ellie: Probably the ‘Spa Ritual’ as you get a little bit of everything a full body scrub, full body massage and a facial.
What’s your favourite treatment to do?
Ellie: I really love doing facials. Because I like having them, I find I like doing them as I know how much the client is getting out of it. And you get results straight away which is nice to see.
Daniella: I love a manicure and pedicure. It’s a great way to talk to your client and we have wonderful regulars so it’s lovely to catch up with them. It’s another treatment where you see the results straight away which I like.
What’s the Spa team’s favourite music to listen to?
Daniella, our ‘Queen D,’ is a huge Beyoncé fan. We love our female singers like Beyonce and Lizzo between clients during the clean downs. While we enjoy the relaxing spa music, it’s refreshing to mix it up with something more upbeat. It’s not something we do often, but when we do, it’s always a blast.
