A year ago in August, we introduced our popular monthly bar offering ‘Drink of the Month’, where a member of the team chooses a cocktail, wine, spirit or beer to showcase for the month. From Harrison’s popular ‘Tiki Fire’ to Holly’s festive ‘Holly Jolly’, we’ve seen our team’s creativity shine. This year’s round-up is a testament to our team’s talent and passion. It showcases the best of the Penventon and the skills we’re very proud to cultivate in our team. It’s been so fun seeing everyone’s personality and individual flair shown in the drinks they’ve chosen, and can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Below are the 13 fantastic drinks showcased throughout the year.
August ’23 – Harrison’s Tiki Fire
‘Drink of the Month’ started with a bang, with Harrison’s fiery rum cocktail becoming so popular amongst the guests we just had to add it to our cocktail menu all year round. It’s a sweet and spicy cocktail with all the fiery flair you could want to start a night out.
September ’23 – Wes’s Berry Mojito
Wes created a delicious Berry Mojito for the transition into Autumn, perfectly enjoyed on the warmer summer days and into the cooler autumn evenings. It was sweet, minty and refreshing, and don’t we all just love a mojito?
October ’23 – Zinnia’s Blood Orange Gin & Elderflower Cocktail
With our bar featuring over 130 gins, including local brands and international favourites, a gin cocktail made perfect sense for Zinnia’s October choice. Using Tarquins Cornish Gin (Blood Orange), Zinnia created a graceful elderflower gin cocktail that harmonised the citrus and floral notes perfectly.
November ’23 – Kaden’s Hot Buttered Rum
The only hot drink featured this year didn’t disappoint, it was enjoyed by many guests on cold November evenings and became the perfect seasonal pick-me-up. Its rich blend of Old J dark rum, velvety butter, brown sugar and spices was the cosiest autumn creation.
December ’23 – Holly’s Holly Jolly
Holly’s Holly Jolly took December by storm, with guests enjoying the fun festive novelty of a cocktail served in a bauble. Not only beautiful but the warming blend of Disarano and cherry rum harmonised for the perfect flavours and was enjoyed at our many Christmas party nights. As the best selling ‘Drink of the Month’ how can we keep it off the menu? Stay on the look out for its return this December…
January ’24 – Darren’s Cherry Falls
We burst into the New Year with Darren’s sparkly Prosecco cocktail blended with Amaretto, cherry liqueur and garnished with gold dusted glazed cherries creating a spectacular shimmer. It was the perfect cocktail to toast the New Year.
February ’24 – Jen’s Love Potion
The month of romance and cosy date nights were enjoyed with Jen’s ‘Love Potion’ in hand. The cocktail was created by Jen to be enjoyed before a Valentines’ date or with the girls before a night out. Its fruity and citrusy blend was topped with a touch of luxurious gold dust.
March ’24 – Mrs P’s Jam Cocktail by Agris
Our much loved owner Mrs P has been making her famous homemade jam for Penventon for over 50 years, naturally, using the delicious jam in cocktails was meant to be. Our bar manager Agris paired Paola’s tasty blackcurrant jam with Cornish Connie Glaze vodka to create the most delicious cocktail. Another drink that’s become so popular we’ve just had to add it to our menu all year round. Be sure to try it on your next visit.
April ’24 – Kelly’s PineAperol Paradise
We love a tropical cocktail and Kelly’s ‘Drink of the Month’ was no exception. It was a blissful blend of Bacardi rum, fruity flavours and the bittersweet kiss of Aperol. Amidst the April showers, it was just what we needed to bring a hint of the tropics to our Cornish paradise.
May ’24 – Alix’s Picpoul De Pinet
With over 150 wines on our menu, naturally, a wine was going to be featured. Our bartender Alix’s love of white wine led her to want to showcase her first choice on our wine list – the Picpoul de Pinet; thelip-stinger of Languedoc. It’s delicate aroma of citrus and acacia blossom transports you right to the heart of the Mediterranean.
June ’24 – Sally’s Summer Gin Board
We kicked off the summer with a selection of Sally’s favourite Gins, served with the guests’ choice of mixer and a selection of garnishes. Her choices to showcase were Sir Robin of Locksley, Hendricks, Whitley Neill Parma Violets, and Mermaid Zest. Four amazing choices. Our Gin boards are a favourite during the summer and are enjoyed best on the patio basking in the sun.
July ’24 – Hazel’s Rainbow Crush
‘You can’t have a rainbow without a little rain’ felt especially true this July, with more showers than we expected – Hazel’s Rainbow Crush was a little sip of sunshine. It was a refreshing blend of sweet and creamy served over crushed ice and garnished with a flower.
August ’24 – Hannah’s Caribbean Sunset
To round up the first year of ‘Drink of the Month’, we’ve concluded with Hannah’s Caribbean Sunset. A perfect blend of peach and creamy coconut, transporting you from our patio in Cornwall to the Caribbean with every sip.
So much of the team’s personality and creativity have been infused into the ‘Drinks of the Month’ that have been showcased this year, with such an amazing lineup we can’t wait to see what they’ll create this next year. With the festive season fast approaching, be sure to keep an eye out on our seasonal menus which are full of equally great drinks to choose from.
