Some of our closest beaches are on the North Coast, with a few under 20 minutes’ drive away. These must-explore seascapes reveal a whole new level of beauty in the Autumn. You may even get the vast expanses of sand and sea to yourself depending on the time of day you visit. And there’s something magical about a north Cornwall sunset in the autumn that you just shouldn’t miss.

Portreath – With its spacious sands and stunning coastal views, it’s the perfect spot for furry friends to run, play, and enjoy the outdoors. The best bit is that it’s just 15 minutes from us with dogs allowed on the beach between September and June.

Perranporth – Enjoy the changing landscape and quiet atmosphere of Perranporth in autumn. Dogs are currently allowed all year round making it the perfect dog-friendly spot to take your pooch for the day.

Porthtowan – Surrounded by high cliffs and expansive sands, and adored by surfers, Porthtowan offers the perfect north Cornwall beach day. Dogs are allowed from October through April with no restrictions.

Fistral – Considered one of Cornwall’s most famous beaches Fistral has a lot to offer. The quieter autumn season reveals a different type of allure and being so close to Newquay town centre there’s so much to do. Dogs are allowed on Fistral all year, so take your canine companion for a fun-filled Newquay day out.

South Cornwall Dog-Friendly Beaches

While the north coast is renowned for its vast, sandy beaches, South Cornwall offers a more secluded coastal charm. If you’re feeling adventurous the hidden coves, rugged cliffs, and secluded shores are perfect for exploring with your dog.
The Lizard Peninsula, the Roseland, and the Falmouth area boast some of the most stunning beaches in Cornwall, each with its unique character and beauty. For the early birds, the south coast sunrises are second to none.
Our top recommendations are:

Gyllyngvase – This beach is situated a 15 minute walk from Falmouth town centre and has everything you’ll need for the perfect dog-friendly day out. Dogs are allowed from October to April with restrictions from May to September.

Marazion Beach – The beautiful beach that overlooks St Michael’s Mount is perfect for exploring during Autumn. Dogs are allowed between September 1st and June 30th with restrictions outside of these times.

Porthcurnick – Situated on the Roseland peninsula this beautiful stretch of beach and coastline offers the perfect place to explore with your pooch. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round with no restrictions.

Top Tips For A Dog Friendly Beach Trip

It’s easy to want to rush out the door and explore Cornwall’s autumn charm, but before hitting the beach make sure you’re all set.  Don’t forget water and a collapsible bowl to stay hydrated. Make sure to bring their favourite toys and treats to keep them happy. And some mess bags to clean up after them.

Beach Safety Tips:

Cornish beaches have so much to offer but safety is paramount for both newcomers and seasoned visitors. Some top suggestions to keep your dog safe, while exploring and having fun.

1 – Avoid hot sand – Although unlikely in autumn, it’s always best to double check the sand temperature for little paws.

2 – Keep your dog on a lead along cliff edges and high coastal paths.

3 – Check tide times, especially on beaches where you could get cut off from shore.

4 – Don’t let your dog drink the seawater to avoid saltwater poisoning.
