You may love a Cornish summer, but autumn in Cornwall is a whole different type of magic. You’ll discover some real hidden gems behind those sunny beach postcards. Imagine going on peaceful coastal walks, the dog-friendly beaches are finally open, and the leaves start painting the landscape in a kaleidoscope of rich colours.
Plus, there’s all that festive fun to look forward to – bonfire night, our Fright Night Ball, and autumnal activities wrapped in classic Cornish charm.
So, let’s dive into our top picks for an unforgettable autumn getaway in Cornwall!
Take an Autumn Walk
First on the autumn bucket list is a good walk to see the changing season. When the last of the summer greenery is giving way to beautiful orange hues it’s hard not to want to be outside taking it all in. The Cornish coast is perfect for an autumn walk and wandering through the woodlands is like discovering a secret garden for the first time.
Discover Tehidy Country Park, which is just a 15 minute drive from us and the perfect place for a walk to see the changing woodland trees. Tehidy also has an abundance of wildlife with squirrels and birds hard to miss on your visit – don’t forget to bring seeds and nuts with you to feed them!
For a coastal adventure, Portreath is our closest beach (just a 10 minute drive from the Penventon). Its stretch of golden sand and high cliffs make incredible views for walks during the quieter seasons. The beach is dog friendly and makes a wonderful spot to watch the sunset over the Atlantic. Take a cosy blanket and seasonal picnic for an unforgettable autumn experience.
Join Bonfire Night Celebrations
Bonfire Night celebrations are held throughout Cornwall, with lively gatherings around local bonfires and firework displays, there’s a lot to choose from. Falmouth and Truro have confirmed events with many other towns waiting to release their plans. Keep an eye out on Visit Cornwall or your chosen area for updated plans.
Go to ‘Pick Your Own’ at Trevaskis Farm
Autumn isn’t complete without a classic pumpkin picking family photo, and local farm Trevaskis is one of the best in the area. From pumpkin picking to seasonal fruit and veg, Trevaskis is the perfect choice for a ‘Pick Your Own’ family afternoon out. Stroll the fields choosing your own fruit and veg and then enjoy a cosy hot drink or some lunch at their farm shop café.

If you’ve ever been to one of our Fright Night Balls you’ll know first-hand what an exciting and immersive Halloween night it is. Heligan Harvest is a celebration of all the hard work put into Heligan’s kitchen garden and grounds. You can enjoy farm tours, apple pressing, produce tasting and much more. It’s a great autumn family day out for little ones and adults alike.
