Stretch Your Legs

Within a few mile radius of the Penventon Park Hotel, you will find some of the most spectacular walks in Britain. We have put together a few of our and our guests Favourites. From shorter relaxing walks to longer more challenging days out.

Cornwall, with the longest coastline in Britain, offers everything that a walker could want; ancient paths and ways and rights of way established by the miners, fishermen and farm workers over the centuries; remote moorland hikes and cliff top walks with stunning views. Many of the walks featured have a staggering beauty which keeps changing with the weather and the season.

Tehidy Woods & Country Park

Located a few miles from the Penventon Hotel and starting from South Tehidy, the woods is a beautiful wooded country park with around 9 miles of nature walks & trails, suitable for biking and walking. The woods have signposted walks which vary in difficulty, one of which leads to Portreath, where after emerging from the woods a mile further along the road you will come to Portreath village and harbour.
Tehidy woods also has a small café serving delicious homemade soup, cakes and mugs of fair-trade tea. The children can tackle the ‘Tehidy climbing tree’, nature's very own answer to a climbing frame! A huge tree hundreds of years old which should be tackled by adults and children alike, which is painted with squirrels playing. From here there is a short leisurely path around the lake.

Portreath to Devoran

The 11-mile Coast to Coast Mineral Tramways Trail from Portreath to Devoran is one of the most pleasant and easy ways of crossing the Westcountry peninsula. The route is actually better suited to cycling than walking, but the easy going stroll makes for a pleasant day out nevertheless. Along the way, through the Poldice Valley, you will see some of the most extensive ‘mine-scapes’ to be found anywhere in the country. The word ravaged doesn’t quite do the scenery justice, and yet there in an austere beauty which you will not witness anywhere else.
