The Penventon Park Hotel is very proud to be the chosen venue for special evening on Friday 24th May with former Australian rugby union legend DAVID CAMPESE to celebrate the Testimonial Year of Cornish Pirates prop ALAN PAVERDavid Campese

David Campese is a household name in the rugby world. Many view David as one of the greatest and most entertaining rugby players to have ever graced the field. Representing Australia for 15 years, he achieved and still holds the world record for the most tries in a test match. To add to his credentials, he was the first man in Australian history to play 101 tests for his country.

The evening will consist of a sumptuous three course meal and will support the Alan Paver testimonial year. Top Australian master of ceremonies and comedian Justin Karcher will be hosting the evening, which includes a raffle and auction.

Speaking of his testimonial dinner, Alan stated ‘I am hugely honoured that one of the greatest rugby players in World rugby will be supporting my testimonial year. It should be a great night for Cornish rugby.

This is a unique opportunity to attend what promises to be an unforgettable night for everyone fortunate enough to attend.

 

 

A College Visit For Hannah!

Receptionist/Marketing sales assistant Hannah Blight was proud to greet former college lecturer Suzette Sadler to the Hotel yesterday afternoon, along College Picturewith 10 students from Cornwall College Camborne.

The students were being shown around the Hotel by Reception Manager Nigel Jeffery, and informed of the system in which groups and tours are checked in and catered for. As an ex student of Travel and Tourism herself, Hannah was able to provide the students with inspiration; they were able to see what they could do when they complete their course, and the opportunities that arrive.

Suzette even commented on the day as a success- “The students came back to college full of enthusiasm, wrote up their notes and are planning to drop in their CV’s!” A great way of continuing the great relationship that we have with the college team.

The Hotel sparked some interest on Friday 11th January  when we had a special guest Nick Clegg in our midst.  The deputy Prime Minister hosted our luncheon for the Cornwall chamber of commerce and Industry questions and answers networking event. He was impressed to say the least, and enjoyed the range of fresh local Cornish produce that was so beautifully displayed around the room.

“A grand banquet fit for a king” said one of the members.

A great excuse to showcase our best assets, we received such lovely comments from everyone. Our head chef was extremely pleased with the positive feedback received.

“A job well executed.” With such delicious cuisine, it’s only right to mix business with pleasure!

Well done to everyone involved.

A Fist Full Of Charity!

The Penventon Park Hotel is pleased to announce that the ‘Pink It Up’ charity event smashed last years fundraising total – reaching over £1500.00!  One guest commented “It was one of the best night’s out that we have had had in a long time, we can’t wait for next year!”

During the day, the hotel’s health and leisure suite was the scene for pre dinner pampering with many toe or finger nails being painted in shades of pink and mini treatments whilst guests enjoyed complementary pink themed cup cakes and refreshments with all invited donations raising funds for Cancer Research UK – Check out some pictures of the day on our facebook page >>

The pink theme continued into evening with guests arriving in beautiful arrays of pink attire.  After being served pink bubbly on arrival, donated by St Austell Brewery the guests were invited to give a small donation which was placed onto the wishing tree, kindly provided by Caramia Designs.  After purchasing the evenings raffle tickets the guests were shown through to the restaurant which was decorated in pink and white balloons by Steve Petty of Cornish Decorative Balloons.  Once seated the guests then enjoyed the hotels especially themed pink menu.

Brenda Pedley; chief organiser of the event and breast cancer survivor was overwhelmed by such generosity and support shown by the community and guests in joining the ongoing fight for women’s survival.

Brenda said;

“I appreciate very much the support that the Pascoe family and all at the hotel have given over the past years.  Much of the £82,500 that I have raised for Cancer Research UK has been through the Penventon Park Hotel.  All the guests were very generous with donations and I was very touched when at the end of a hard nights work the staff presented me with their tips of over £100″.

After many great comments about the evening Brenda and the Hotel are already planning a bigger and better ‘Pink it up 2013!’

Oceanna Grand Appeal

Nathan Thomas is raising funds for Bristol Children’s Hospital, Renal Unit. This is a charity very close to is heart as this is where his 7 year old daughter, Oceanna, has been looked after since she was born.

Throughout her life Oceanna has spent a lot of time travelling back and forth from Bristolchildren’s Hospital as she was born with only one kidney and several other medical conditions. The kidney that she was born with was not fully developed and was only functioning at a small percentage.

As Oceanna has grown over the years, the doctors and specialists informed the family that her kidney function had deteriorated rapidly and was unable to support her body; if she did not have a transplant soon she would have to go on dialysis.  Nathan was tested and found out that he was a suitable donor. The family had to wait as long as possible to ensure that Oceanna was at her strongest which took nearly 4 years.

On the 5th October 2011 they operated removing Nathans left kidney and transported it across to Oceanna. After 9 and half hours of surgery between us the operation was over and the outcome was a fantastic success – Nathan’s kidney worked straight away.Oceanna has named her new kidney ‘Sydney the Kidney’

A year on and Nathan is organising a charity evening with an auction and raffle celebrating ‘Sydneythe Kidney’s’ first birthday.

This event will be held exactly one year after the transplant. The event will be held at the Penventon Park Hotel in Redruth starting at 7pm. We are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the Bristol Children’s Hospital by asking local businesses to donate prizes for the raffle and auction.

Tickets are also on sale for this fantastic evening at only £6 each. Using the raffle number on your ticket, you will be entered into the Oceanna’s Raffle with a star prize. Please see the poster for all contact details and the line up for the evening.

Asparagus Festival “Such a fantastic day”

We were delighted to hosted Cornwall’s first ever asparagus festival last Sunday – 29th May.

The day began with an opportunity to meet Cornwall’s largest asparagus growers John and Jenny Keeler from Tregassow Farm, who shared some tips for growing this tricky crop.

The festival day was packed with a full programme of live cookery demonstrations from some of Cornwall’s top chefs, including: Nigel Tabb of Tabb’s in Truro, Arty Williams of The Cove in Falmouth, John Waterhouse, former head lecturer of catering at Cornwall College, and our very own chef Joe Lado Devesa.

In addition to the cooking demonstrations there were lots delicious tasters and Cornish produce available at the festival food market, visitors were able to try asparagus, pick up hints, tips and learn new recipes – and with the added help of our recipe book they could cook the dishes at home for dinner!

Aaron Pascoe, our Hotel Manager said ” The Cornwall Asparagus festival is all about celebrating our local producers and gives visitors the chance to find out more about what’s on their doorstep!”

The afternoon was concluded with a fun asparagus challenge between two Penventon chefs – the hard part for the visitors was to choose who dish was the best!

The day was such a success – with over 250 attending, we are already making plans for the Cornwall Asparagus Festival 2013!

As the 27th May is approaching, excitement is brewing along with our Asparagus! The Penventon will be celebrating this pure and simple plant during a one day festival.

Intrigued? Well you should be, this great, Cornish Ingredient first appeared in print around 1000AD, (a very long time) and it is known to be native to Eastern Mediterranean and Asia minor areas. Asparagus may not be much to look at, but it has many incredible health benefits, from detoxifying and anti aging functions to reducing pain and inflammation, one of the better valued benefits being considered to be an aphrodisiac!

Our wonderful suppliers have come together to help our chefs ensure this day is a success. Using their helpful contributions there will be food preparation demos running throughout the day, all centred around Asparagus and using only local Cornish Ingredients.   Joe Lado the Penventons executive chef (Multiple AA Rosette awarded) will be leading his brigade of chefs along with 3 other guest chefs including John Waterhouse, who will be cooking with a team of Cornwall college students.

Our individual local suppliers will set up individual stalls so ingredients can be purchased on the day after being inspired!

A fantastic opportunity to promote fresh Cornish Asparagus! We hope to see you there!
