Pink it up!

We are teaming up with Redruth breast cancer survivor, Brenda Pedley, to turn the hotel pink for Cancer Research UK to raise money for the charity’s breast cancer awareness and fundraising campaign, ‘Join the fight for women’s survival’ .

In 2001 Brenda was diagnosed with breast cancer and is now enjoying a life free from the disease. Her cancer was caught very early on during her first routine mammogram, testament that early diagnosis is essential. Brenda said: “This is great way to celebrate 10 years since my diagnosis’. Since then she has raised nearly £80,000 for Cancer Research UK. She went on to say ‘Hopefully with the Penventon Hotel hosting this pink themed evening we can increase awareness and encourage others help raise even more money.  We want people to book dinner at the Penventon Hotel and be counted as they ‘Join the fight for women’s survival’.

The Penventon’s brigade of Chefs will be preparing an especially themed ‘Pink’ menu – with a donation of £5 made by the hotel directly to Cancer Research UK for every person dining from the menu. The hotel’s friends from the Polgoon Vineyard in Penzance will be providing Pink Bubbly – for an invited donation – again, the donation going directly to Cancer Research UK.

To add some more atmosphere to the room, Steve from Cornish Decorative Balloons, is kindly donating displays on the tables.

Polgoon Wines are our partners on the evening and ALL the sales from their wine sales that evening will be donated as well.

With places limited, and demand already high, please contact the hotel on 01209 203000 to book your table as soon as possible, stating you wish to dine from the charity menu.

Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, Cancer Research UK was able to spend over £41 million on groundbreaking work into the disease last year, making it the largest single funder of breast cancer research in the UK.

This research is crucial, but also very expensive, so the charity’s fundraisers are getting fighting fit to enlist support from local people.

Please show your support for the vital work being carried out, whilst enjoying a night out with Penventon’s unique atmosphere, quality food and service.

The Cornwall Food and Drink Festival

Joe Lado, Penventon Park Hotels’ Executive Chef is cooking at the Chefs’ Theatre during the Cornwall Food and Drink Festival in Truro at 1pm on Sunday the 25th of September.  The show is a great day out if you enjoy local exciting food.

Joe is preparing tapas dishes from Galicia, North West Spain. Joe was born in the region, moving to London in his youth. Cornwall and Galicia have lots in common; on opposite sides of the Bay of Biscay, they both specialize in seafood.

Joe will be supported by Kylie Clemance and Tom Jonik.

Kylie has worked as a Patisserie at the Penventon for three years experience. Kylie has taken lots of qualification including NVQ 3 in General Kitchen and Patisserie and is currently studying for the FdA in Hospitality Management under Plymouth University; she even has qualifications in sign reading.

Tom Jonik is our Larder Chef de Partie and has four years experience at the Penventon and hence prepares your starters in the Restaurant. Tom loves fish and would recommend the Hors d’oeuvre, recently adding baked scallop to the dish. The Scallop is baked with a tomato and garlic sauce (with some other ingredients that he would not reveal!) and finished under the grill with a herb crust.

Richard Pearce, the Penventon Maitre’d, is a familiar face to those who dine with us. Richard has been at the Hotel for eight years after graduating from the BTec in Hospitality Supervision at Cornwall College. Richard has also achieved the WSET Wine and Spirits Education Trust intermediate and advanced. Last year Richard was recognised by the Tourism Skills Network as student of the Year.  Richard is discussing the food, the ingredients and would love to discuss accompanying wines but chef  has only given him five minutes! But is happy to discuss the wines when you come in for dinner!

Joe will be cooking:

Chickpea Salsa, Clams Galician Style, Moorish Pork Skewers, Perfect Spanish Omelette, Galician Monkfish and Chorizo in Sherry.
